Rapid City, SD The best of the best high school musicians rehearsed Friday at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

Over 160 students from all across the state gathered for a three day session ... learning and rehearsing music from some of the best conductors in the nation.

These students auditioned for their spots with rehearsed pieces, sight reading, and a music term quiz to earn their way on to the stage Saturday evening.

Event organizer Toby Rath says this is an incredible opportunity for students from large and small schools in the area.

Toby Rath, All State Band organizer says, "This is an opportunity for them to be among the select musicians from around the state. It's a nice mixture of large and small schools. We have a school here that has only 125 students k-12 that has their school represented in the band, and we have the largest schools in the state represented in the band. So it is a wide variety of students from all around that get to be in this and it gives everybody an equal experience with the finest conductors in the country."

The performance will take place Saturday at 4:00 PM and tickets are 16 dollars or adults and 11 for students.
