Funeral services set for Sturgis firefighter

STURGIS, S.D.(KEVN/KOTA TV) – Funeral services for David Fischer, the Sturgis firefighter killed in Tilford Friday, have been scheduled.

Fischer, assistant chief with the Sturgis Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Service and a staff sergeant with the South Dakota National Guard, was killed Friday battling a home fire in Tilford. The fire also killed 82 year-old Raymond Joseph Bachmeier of Tilford.

Funeral services are 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 15, at the west gymnasium at Sturgis Brown High School on Highway 34.

Interment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery. A procession from Brown High School to Black Hills National Cemetery will take place immediately following funeral services. Procession information will be released when details are finalized so that those wishing to pay their respects may line the procession route if they so choose.

Public visitation will take place at the Sturgis Community Center, 1401 Lazelle Street in Sturgis, from 1 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 13.
