RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - The Mystic Ranger District of the Black Hills National Forest has a prescribed burn scheduled for Thursday (Nov. 30) and Friday (Dec. 1).
Crews will work to clear around 389 acres between Beretta Road and Boulder Hill Road as part of their ongoing Silver Mountain project.
Weather permitting, fire crews will begin the burn in the late morning hours and continue working through the day.
“If we are out of prescription, we will cancel the burn and wait for a better day,” said Wayne Yanders, a Black Hills National Forest firefighter.
Smoke will be visible in the area and could affect Rapid City, Hill City, Highway 16 and the surrounding areas.
According to a report from the Mystic Ranger District, the project aims to clear around 1,140 acres on Silver Mountain. A controlled burn in October resulted in 108 acres being cleared.
