After five hours of deliberation, 43-year-old Andries Snyman of Isabel was found guilty by a federal jury Friday afternoon.
The jury of 12 found Snyman guilty of attempted enticement of a minor using the internet back in August of last year.
The government says Snyman started talking with the boy on a dating app, but it was actually an undercover agent posing as a 14-year-old boy.
Throughout the trial, Snyman's attorney Tom Diggins said Snyman intended to meet the fictional boy to give him advice and to warn him about "weirdos."
But U.S. Attorney Sarah Collins said that was never the case.
Instead, it was about manipulating the young man to have sex.
Snyman faces a mandatory 10 years behind bars with a maximum of up to life in prison.
He will be sentenced at a later date.
