RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, families were able to hit the square for kid-friendly games, crafts, entertainers, train rides and even learn a few things here and there and the best part --- it was all free!
Main Street Square staff says they see about 5,000 people come through the square each year. Families say it is nice to be able to enjoy the Square and not have to dig deep into their pockets.
"It's nice to get out and it's a free event so it's nice to be able to get out and it's a free event so it's nice to be able to get out and not have to worry about how much money we're going to spend just enjoying the weather, the free activities, learning more about the area is nice too, all the different booths and stuff. It's been fun."
"The weather's real nice. They have a lot of really free things for the kids like the bike helmets and stuff and all the games and the water fountain. After a long winter, it's really nice to get out and spend time together instead of being inside the house."
The Kids carnival was held in conjunction with Regional Health and Kohl's Cares "Don't Thump Your Melon" Program, which provides helmets to those in need, proper fitting of helmets, and bicycle safety education.
