Deadwood's rich history has gotten national attention this year.

The city of Deadwood was honored by True West magazine as the top true western town of 2017.

Deadwood also received several other titles including best place to live like a cowboy, best architecturally preserved town and the Saloon Number 10 was recognized as the best historic saloon.

The Deadwood Chamber of Commerce hopes to use this honor as a tool to get tourists to appreciate it's wild western history.

Lee Harstad, Deadwood Chamber of Commerce Executive Director says, "The Gold Rush of 1876 that brought thousands into this gulch community and their history still stands today. We have Wild Bill Hickok, we have Seth Bullock, we have Calamity Jane, just a number of these famous famous characters and they made Deadwood what it is today."

The article featuring Deadwood and all of it's historical features can be found in True West Magazine's January Issue.
