RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Ten people help make big decisions for our town as members of the Rapid City Council, but councilman Jason Salamun says he is not seeking re-election.

People elected Jason Salamun to lead Ward 3 in 2016.

Although Salamun's term doesn't end until July 2019, he announced his decision early so that people who are interested in running can get ready sooner.

He says he plans to finish strong and hopes to address more issues related to economic development during his remaining time in office.

He also added he loves this community and that his commitment to Rapid City has never been stronger.

Jason Salamun says, "Some people are confused. They think that I may be done with public service, but I would say I'm probably just getting started. And because I'm just getting started, I'm weighing what they next steps are."

Salamun says serving on the council is a big commitment, and advice he would have for his successor: make sure you get the green light from important people in your life including your family and your employer.
