City of Rapid City declares and sells thousands of surplus items

RAPID CITY S.D. (KEVN) - Thousands of items were up for grabs Saturday morning as the City of Rapid City declared all of it as surplus.

As large as a tractor and as small as a laptop, folks had a lot to choose from at the one day auction. These items are collected from City departments and are things that are broken, outdated and unused. The auctioneer says this sale is a way for the city to earn some money and for people from all over to get certain items in their possession.

"They come from all walks of life. We have people from actually all over the region, you know when you've got an assortment like this from dump trucks to computers you get a little bit of everybody. Nice way to spend a Saturday," said Bob Bertolotto.

More than 100 registered buyers hit the city surplus sale Saturday and Bertolotto says for both those people and Rapid City, it's a win-win.
