Blizzard paralyzes western South Dakota

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) - Just as forecast, blizzard conditions are rumbling across the entire region. Heavy snow combined with wicked winds are taking their toll.

Late Wednesday afternoon, a rash of crashes were reported around Rapid City as people attempted to get home before the brunt of the storm clogs roads.

In one crash, a semi rolled over at the corner of Catron Boulevard and Highway 16. According to a tweet by the Pennington County Sheriff's Office, there were no tow trucks out, so that semi is staying right there.

By early afternoon, Pennington County issued a no travel advisory, which included Rapid City. While city plow crews continued to try to keep roads passable, the county had to pull its crews off the streets because the wind made it impossible clear the drifts.

There is also a no travel advisory in Spearfish.
