Tis the season for families all throughout the Black Hills to jump in front of the camera and get that perfect fall picture.

One local photographer is opening his lens for one of the busiest times of the year.

Photographer Henry Ulrich and owner of Henry Roy Photography has been shooting for seven years. He says this time of year is all about the fall colors.

Although many families travel to places like Spearfish Canyon for photo shoots, he says Rapid City's scenery is just as aesthetic.

Ulrich says he photographs 90% of his families between the end of August and the beginning of October and during his mini-sessions, he photographs up to 25 families in one day.

Although the industry has changed with the evolution of the phone, he says there will always be a time and place for those in the photography business.

"Photographs are never important today as they will be in 30 years so think of it like a fire. What's the first thing people want to grab? Their photographs. I get phone calls every year from people that have lost a loved one and I was the last one that took their photo," Ulrich expressed.

Ulriuch's assistant Hailey Cortez does skincare in studio and says it is nice to see how her roles go hand in hand.

"I think it's cool that I'm also behind the camera and I am behind the editing and all that stuff so I know what the makeup is going to look like on the screen basically and stuff so it helps me do my job a little bit better," Cortez said.

One company is busy as ever in its new showroom and says things will only pick up the next couple of months.

Epic Interiors' services include interior trim, cabinetry, acrylic counter-top fabrication, and custom woodworking. The president says they're usually working on four to five projects at once but are getting busier and busier as the seasons change.

"People are usually pretty ecstatic about having new stuff especially something as personal as a kitchen. We see some full on kitchen remodels and so on and they have big events going on and they want it to look snazzy," said Andy Kaiser, president and owner of Epic Interiors.
