Archery tournament draws hundreds to Black Hills Sports Show

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Hundreds of kids and adults nocked their arrows for an archery competition at the Black Hills Sports Show and Outdoor Expo.

About 400 archers from across the state participated in the Black Hills Archery Shoot Out.

Al Kraus from Black Hills Archery says the sport is great because it teaches discipline and patience.

During the shoot out, employees are also trying to teach kids proper form, showing them how to stand and how to hold the bow so that they don't hurt their arms.

Al Kraus, owner, Black Hills Archery, says, "It kind of just gets them out of their element. When they're shooting in their own environment, at their own shop, they get kind of used to that, a little controlled environment, so this kind of gets them out of their comfort zone and gives them a feel for the tournament pressures and just trying to get them ready for the state shoot in Pierre."

Whether you're a kid or an adult, Al encourages everyone to go out, shoot a bow, and have fun.
