RAPID CITY, S.D. The idea for the Amazing Rush is to try to drum up more travel business for Rapid City, to get more meeting planners to bring their conventions here.
The third year of the campaign is underway after kicking off Monday morning at Main Street Square.
Meeting planners applied to be a part of this competition and this year Visit Rapid City picked three from Milwaukee, Lusk, Wisconsin and Springfield, Illinois.
This year's event started with a bean bag competition at Main Street Square.
They then took off for competitions around the Hills Monday and they'll finish with more competitions around Rapid City Tuesday.
Visit Rapid City's president says this promotion has worked great in the first two years.
Julie Schmitz Jensen says, "We have gotten more leads than in any other trade show opportunities that we've done. The first year it was a little slower. I think we got about 13 convention leads. Then last year it was about 34. We are up to 95 this year.
Luck, Wisconsin event planner Linda Glenn says, "Fun. Absolute fun. Exhilarating fun. In all actuality, to get another perspective of everything Rapid City and the Black Hills has to offer me."
The competitors are set to cross the finish line during Tuesday afternoon's Travel Rally at Main Street Square.
