About 30 stolen guns allegedly found in Rapid City hotel room: Two people charged
More than two dozen stolen guns were allegedly found in a local hotel room around early January of this year.
A Rapid City man and woman are facing federal charges and awaiting trial in relation to those stolen firearms and possession of Methamphetamine.
That's according to a statement from the US Attorney's office for South Dakota. It says law enforcement found about 30 stolen guns in a Rapid City hotel room occupied by 44 year old Cory Myers and 37 year old Esmeralda Stands.
The two were allegedly also found with meth.
Both Myers and Stands are in custody, until their trial which is set for April 30th.
The statement says, the guns had been reported stolen from a storage unit in Rapid City several days prior to being found.
Myers and Stands are charged with "Possession of a Stolen Firearm" and "Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance".
Myers faces an additional charge of "Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person". The Indictment references Myers previous criminal record.
The Indictment lists the date for each count as "on or about January 3, 2019".
Myers and Stands were indicted in Federal Court March 19th and both pleaded not guilty.
The name of the Rapid City hotel where the stolen guns were found, is not included in either the statement, or the redacted federal indictment.
