DEADWOOD, S.D. (KEVN) - A healthy dose of betting in December helped the Deadwood gaming industry finish 2018 in the black.
Data for the year shows that the gaming handle (money wagered) was up 1.5 percent over 2017. For December, gaming handle was up 10.3 percent over the year before.
Gamblers wagered more than $1.1 billion last year.
In a news release, the executive director of the Deadwood Gaming Association, Mike Rodman, said the coming downtown square and the push for sports betting should help keep the future economy “solid.”
