Five western South Dakota non-profit organizations were granted awards Friday morning to celebrate their past initiatives and to help them reach their goals, so they can serve as beacons across the state.

The South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) granted more than $52,000 dollars between the American Legion Post 303 out of Hermosa, Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity, Black Hills Community Loan Fund, Inc,

C.O.R.E., and the Northern Hills Training Center in Spearfish.

These are all organizations that impact culture, economic development, education, health and human services in the area.

"They each have a story to tell and part of that story is what's going to happen with the impact of this grant and how are they going to use it and we're continuing their story to be able to be able to finish what they started," said Beth Massa, regional director for foundation relations, SDCF.

The South Dakota Community Foundation was founded in 1987 by Governor George Mickelson. The organization hopes to continue his mission, legacy, and help foster success in the state of South Dakota for many more years to come.
