Library receives increase in numbers on digital platforms

RAPID CITY S.D. (KEVN TV) - The library has just about any book you could think of; in paperback, hard cover, and digital.

Now digital copies are among the most used collections at the Rapid City Public Library. The increase could be because of the ease digital makes on users.

"More and more people are getting devices and tablets and just really like the advantage being able to access us anywhere they go," says Laurinda Tapper with the Rapid City Public Library.

Although digital downloads are up at the library, print books aren't going out of style.

For Mitzi's Book at Main Street Square customers say there's something about holding that hardcover book in their hands.

"I know that there are tons of people out there obviously that that's how they get their reading material is online but thankfully there's still that community that wants to come out and enjoy a book in person," says Mary Ackland the retail manager with Mitzi's Books.

Although Rapid City Public Library has a boom in digital downloads, books going out their doors are up 10% over last year.
