RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) - It's that time of year once again when the Black Hills Stock Show rolls into town.

This year is the 61st annual stock show drawing in thousands and thousands of people from around the country.

The three week event caters to South Dakota's two biggest industries - agriculture and tourism.

The nationally recognized stock show has so many events it has booked the fairgrounds and the Civic Center. However, it wasn't always this way. President of the Stock Show Board of Directors John Kerstiens says over the years it's gotten so big they've had to add extra days.

"The more that our livestock and our equine industry grew, the more demand we had on this facility," Kerstiens said. "There were more people wanting to come and do different breeds for different shows and things like that. We were really forced to expand and now it's grown from the traditional 10 days to the 21, 22 days extravaganza."

This year up and coming country music star Cody Johnson will headline the last Friday of the stock show.
