RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) - Engagement season is a thing; occurring from Thanksgiving up until Valentines Day.
Taylor Wittle's fiance proposed to her on Christmas Eve.
Taylor said, "We were all opening gifts and it was his turn to open a gift and then he stood up."
Why is this such a popular time to decide to tie the knot?
Some believe it's because you're surrounded with family and friends, others say a ring makes a good Christmas present.
But regardless of why some think this occurs, the holiday season seems to just be a perfect time.
Jesse Riddle, manager of Riddle's Jewelry, said, "Christmas time is by far the busiest holiday for us, it surpasses Valentines Day. Engagement was the number one category but we also had a lot of fashion buys like earrings, gemstones and watches."
Next comes planning and of course money. The average wedding costs around $14,000 in South Dakota.
Taylor is going for a cheaper route. She said they are planning to get married in two years in Mexico instead of the traditional local venue.
