RAPID CITY S.D. (KEVN TV) - Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, and now Giving Tuesday. The day where millions of Americans cash in for a charitable cause.
"Tuesday is really that day to look in our community to the needs that other people might have," says Keiz Larson the development director with The YMCA.
Giving Tuesday is a social media jackpot, with more than 100 thousand active users participating on the Facebook page and if you decide to get in the action this Giving Tuesday, be mindful when donating to some of these sources, especially when online. Some might not be as charitable as they claim to be.
"A really great place to go is the IRS website, irs.gov. They have an extensive list of qualifying charities. You can go check their first if its an organization that you're not really familiar with so that would be a good place to start," says Jennie Steinmetz a CPA with Casey Peterson, LTD.
If you decide to give to the YMCA this Giving Tuesday, that money stays right here in the Black Hills and goes into scholarships to allow kids one full year with the Y.
"You know when you're giving to the Y, it's going to the people that really need the help," says Larson.
If you weren't able to give today, the YMCA, and other charitable causes, accept donations year round.
