127th South Dakota Stockgrowers Association Annual Convention

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - About 200 people made their way out to the 127th South Dakota Stockgrowers Association Annual Convention.

Friday concludes the two day convention that was taking place at the Best Western Ramkota Hotel in Rapid City.

Some of the top experts were talking with attendees on how to better improve the agriculture industry.

The Stockgrowers Association started out as a livestock protection organization and is now a big policy organization.

They not only work alongside their congressional delegation, but also their state legislators.

This convention helps South Dakota's number one economy for the future.

Stockgrowers Association president, Gary Deering, says “well you got to remember that we are the number five, fifth on the list as far as all cattle and calves in the United States so we're a very big player when it comes to the cow/calve industry, especially the cow/calve industry in western South Dakota. This is a big impact in the economy of the state of South Dakota as well as this is a very important organization to keep that thriving."

The organization looking at some big issues coming up including property tax as well as the Keystone XL pipeline.
