RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) - The Humane Society of the Black Hills recently launched a new fundraising campaign known as "Homes for the Holidays."
It all happened after an anonymous donor approached them and offered to match donations dollar-for-dollar. From now until December 31st, the Humane Society is asking for donations to me their goal of $50,000 dollars that if met will doubled to $100,000 dollars. The money will be used to provide new kennels and habitats for all the animals in their care. According to the Humane Society's Executive Director Jacque Harvey, it will be a major upgrade and will help with morale.
"Well I think the most benefit that will be gained from the animals is that they will no longer housed in noisy metal kennels," said Harvey. "The kennels that we are looking at are more animal friendly, they're brighter colored for the public and for our workers and you're no longer look at an animal behind bars are or a chain linked fence."
Vendors and kennel designs are currently under review and a design will be selected based on safety, quality, and animal comfort. After funding is secured, kennel replacement will begin in the first half of 2019 and will continue until funding is exhausted. Dog kennels on the adopt floor will be replaced first followed by cat habitats on the adoption floor. Other exotic animal habitats will be added for the first time ever.
"This is an amazing opportunity for the Humane Society of the Black Hills to provide new habitats for, not only the dogs, but all of the animals that come through the doors," said Harvey "The new kennels will provide the dogs and cats more comfort while they're waiting to be adopted into their forever homes."
You can donate to the Humane Society of the Black Hills in person or through the mail.
