RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - The danger from a fire at the Ultramax ammunition factory has subsided and byy mid-afternoon, roads were reopening and the area business evacuations were lifted.
While the threat of ammunition exploding has subsided, firefighters are still concerned about the fire that engulfed the Ultramax company late Tuesday morning.
The situation was bad enough that a 2,000-foot evacuation zone was set up.
Firefighters are attacking a blaze at the Ultramax ammunition company on Elk Vale Road in Box Elder.
At this time, sections of the road north of Interstate 90 are closed.
Rapid Valley Volunteer Fire Department is in command. Other departments involved include Box Elder and several Rapid City Fire Department units.
