REVILLO, S.D. (KSFY) - Authorities say a Revillo woman died from exposure while walking to find help after crashing her vehicle in rural Grant County a couple days before Christmas.
Sheriff Kevin Owen said his office was notified in the early evening hours on December 23 about an accident on a gravel road north of Revillo. The driver was not in the vehicle or at the scene.
A group consisting of the sheriff's office, the Revillo Fire Department and local residents searched for the driver for several hours.
At dawn on Christmas Eve, Sheriff Owen said a citizen found 83-year-old Nina Bradenburg's body in a swampy area with tall grass off the road.
Authorities believe Bradenburg left her vehicle after the accident and walked north on a gravel road to look for help. At some point she fell into a ditch.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office and the Grant County Coroner investigated the accident.
Revillo is located near the South Dakota/Minnesota border, about 42 minutes northeast of Watertown.
