Lindsey Burrell

Born and raised in South Carolina, Lindsey is from Spartanburg County, and graduated from Winthrop University with a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences degree in Mass Communication with a minor in Leadership Studies.

Through Lindsey’s involvement in the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Organization, and later the Miss America Organization, she realized that she had a passion for community involvement and public speaking. At 16 years old, she knew she wanted to educate individuals about what’s happening in their local community and make a difference within her storytelling.

Aside from news, Lindsey has a passion for educating individuals about their personal risk for hereditary cancers. At 18 years old, Lindsey was genetically tested and found positive for the BRCA1 genetic mutation, meaning that she has an 86% lifetime risk of developing breast cancer and a 70% lifetime risk of developing ovarian cancer. Through this diagnosis and involvement within the Miss South Carolina Organization, Lindsey has created a personal platform- Power In Prevention, and to date has completed over 500 community service hours advocating for those who share a similar fate. In June of 2021, Lindsey competed for the Job of Miss South Carolina and placed First Runner-Up.

During her college years, Lindsey held multiple leadership positions and was a member of the Theta Sigma chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha. Lindsey served as Vice President and later President of the College Panhellenic Council Executive Board and served as a Peer Mentor, helping transition freshman students while teaching Academy 101 alongside Winthrop Faculty. In addition to these positions, Lindsey completed three internships during her undergraduate years. One, as a public relations specialist for a local Fort Mill nonprofit, She also served as an intern for Ryan Seacrest's Seacrest Studios at Levine Children’s Hospital as a broadcast media specialist. And lastly, Interned for a local cable television network, CN2 News as a reporter and photographer.
