Banana trees planted in Rapid City
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) -Another step-in planting around city parks can be checked off greenhouse specialists, John Berglund’s, list.
Making their 5th appearance around town, banana trees were planted in Wilson Park Wednesday morning.
The nice weather brought out the big leafed plants and they plan to stick around until September when the frost starts to hit.
Berglund says planting something unique to the area is always something he enjoys.
“Just something fun, something different, something challenging. You don’t think of that in western South Dakota. You’d think of that in maybe down in Florida or someplace tropical and they’ve worked for the past 5 years so we just keep on going,” said Berglund.
If you want bananas, Berglund said don’t get your hopes up about finding it on these trees as they only produce ornamental fruit.
