PIERRE, S.D. (AP) _ Gov. Mike Rounds' budget director says he
still has questions about Republican legislative leaders' plans to cut South Dakota's state budget.
The GOP leaders are working on plans to trim the budget deficit
by $43 million through spending cuts and a reduction in tax refunds
given to large construction projects. State budget director Jason Dilges says some of the
proposals could have unintended consequences, such as reducing the
state's childhood vaccination program. He says he also does not
know what services the Republican lawmakers want to cut in some
agencies. Lawmakers plan to pass a budget by the time the main run of the legislative session ends Friday.
