It will be Rapid City's newest park. Wednesday, the city signed a deal with the Rushmore Lions Club to create a new nature park on the city's west side. The Lions Club says it's been trying to ink this deal for nearly two years. The 10-acre property sits on the west side of Canyon Lake Park near the entrance to Chapel Valley. Stan Anker says, "It's nice that it's done but now the hard work begins because now we have to - our volunteers - we have to get together and go out there and do the hard work of constructing the pathways and bring rock and bring in the sand and gravel. The Rushmore Lions Nature Park will highlight some of the native plants in the area. It will also have about a one mile pathway through the park area. Construction is expected to begin this spring.
