With the State Wrestling Tournament creeping ever-closer, area teams are in prime shape to make a run at some state tournament hardware.
Thursday, Central and Stevens squared off, battling it out on the mats at Carold Heier Gym.
Coach Travis King hoping the home mat advantage will lead to victory.
Stevens dominant in the early weights, but not here, 113 pounds, Cobbler TJ Morrison and Raider Logen Fischer. Morrison wraps up the single and hits the sweep for the takedown.
Late in the 3rd, Fischer trailing, but storming back as he gets Morrison wrapped up in the crade, but he can't get both shoulders down in time as Morrison hangs on for the 7-to-6 decision. The points for that match would be huge.
120 pounds, Central's Kadyn Kraye against Cody BeVier of Stevens, BeVier doesn't waste the cradle as the Raiders will pick up the pin.
The Raiders jump out to a 23 to 3 lead in the dual. But here's where it'll swing.
145 pounds, Central's Riley McSherry against Stevens' Brandon Sharkey. McSherry earns the two on the takedown.
Later in the match, McSherry picks up two more in the match with another takedown.
The Cobblers go on a run in the later weight classes and come-from-behind for the win in a tight dual.
Get this 33-to-30 the final score..
