Middle school students in Rapid City were shooting free throws on the court, all for a shot at a trophy and a chance to get to the next level of a national competition.

The Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest is for boys and girls ages 8-13 years old. Each contestant has to shoot 25 free throws to compete for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies and the chance to go on to the next level. The competition aims at helping young people compete, connect and succeed.

Leila Roybal, 1st Place Winner in the 12/13 division for girls, says "It's a great experience for kids to come out and have a good time, to hang out with friends. It's a good experience because it gets you ready for the upcoming events you might do in high school."
