WAVI is seeking donations during renovation

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Working Against Violence Inc. (WAVI) has offered assistance to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault for years.

Since 2004, WAVI has been located at the corner of Sixth and Quincy Street. The kitchen is now 14 years and after serving around 8,500 people, it is undergoing renovations.

The remodeling project is expected to take three weeks. WAVI is searching for volunteers to help provide meals during the renovation.

“So, what we’re looking for is meals to be donated from March 7, today, through the 28th,” Kristina Simmons, WAVI development director. “It will take about three weeks, and what we’re needing is dinners donated specifically. We will have a fridge and a microwave, but that’s it. So we’re really calling out to the public to help feed our shelter residents.”

According to Simons, the shelter holds around 30 clients, most of which are women and children.

If you are interested in donating to WAVI, they can be reached at 605-341-3292.
