Terry Peak now open 7 days a week

Lead, SD Terry Peak is ramping up the winter season - starting this weekend the mountain is open every day.

Crews also continue to open more runs for skiers and snowboarders.

Christian Baird, a snowboarder, said "Just the freedom, the passion of when you're actually on the slopes riding. You're not thinking of anything and you have no worries, you're just loving it and doing your thing and it's the best."

This snowboarder is a Terry Peak veteran - shredding the mountain for 26 years here.

Crews opened another lift this weekend - and now have 5 runs ready for winter enthusiasts.

Baird said "Super fun. Conditions are better than you'd expect. And there's more coming. And the crews are doing a great job keeping the slopes awesome."

And the trails were topped with another few inches of fresh powder, Sunday.

Linda Derosier, the marketing director for Terry Peak, said "Really put a little frosting on our snow this morning."

A November storm dropped 2 feet of snow - and the resort has now seen about 40 inches of the white stuff.

Derosier said "The natural stuff always helps."

But snow makers are also working around the clock to open up more runs with a 2-foot base of man-made snow.

Derosier said "You know that's what keeps the conditions great for our skiers and our boarders out there."

But, the start of Terry Peak's 4-month season also brings a boom in business to the Lead and Deadwood area.

Derosier said "I think Terry Peak is a pretty important aspect for our winter recreation and tourism."

The mountain opened in 1952 originally as a summer attraction a couple years later, owners switched seasons to bring in the skiers and boarders.

Laccen Davis, a snowboarder said "I love snowboarding. That's what's so good about winter for me."

Derosier said "We had a great Sunday, today. It was very busy out there. Despite the cold this morning and later in the afternoon - we have a lot of people on the slopes enjoying the sunshine."

The resort's Stewart Lodge was also fully remodeled this year.

They'll celebrate with a grand re-opening next weekend.
