Sturgis churches fill the air with Christmas jingles

Holiday tunes filled the air Sunday at the 39th annual Sturgis Community Christmas Concert.

Seven church choirs from Sturgis and Whitewood put audiences in the holiday spirit at the Sturgis Community Center.

The event coordinator says the Sturgis Area Arts Council heard beautiful songs from the individual churches so why not share them with the community?

Sturgis Community Christmas Concert Coordinator Marlene Kotab says, "For all the people that have been coming, I think it just means that we're able to share the message of Christmas, especially in a church choir you kind of share the birth of Christ as we all sing together. There's so many events that are taking us away to our individual areas and I think this is one nice event in Sturgis where we all come together."

Every group performed two songs dating back to the 1500s all the way through 2017.

At the end of the concert, all the choirs sang Joy to the World with the audience.
