Snowstorm makes travel difficult in the Black Hills

If you were dreaming of a White Christmas this year, you certainly got one.

Sunday's snow impacted travel for many, causing all flights in and out of Rapid City Regional Airport to be cancelled for the day and made driving extremely difficult in the area.

The Department of Transportation announced Interstate 90 is closed in both directions between the Wyoming border and Vivian, South Dakota earlier Sunday evening. They also closed the highway from Vivian to Chamberlain at 7 o'clock central time. With the combination of freezing snow and strong winds, travel is expected to continue being difficult overnight.
The latest update from the City of Rapid City says plow crews are working hospital main lines, hills, and keeping areas treated.
The night plow crew will keep emergency routes open as snow continues and full plowing crews begin at 3 A.M. Monday.
Drivers are asked to use caution when out on the road.
