Six occupants escape house fire in Rapid Valley

A residential structure fire broke out on Anderson Road in Rapid Valley Sunday afternoon.

Authorities say the call came in a little after 12 o'clock for a fire on Anderson Road.

They say all 6 occupants of the home escaped and there were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.

Rapid Valley, Box Elder, and Whispering Pines Fire Departments responded to the call as well as the Red Cross.

Pennington County Fire Administrator Jerome Harvey says, "They noticed the fire immediately and did the right thing. They evacuated. The smoke detectors went off. They got out of the house. That's the number one thing: get away from the fire. And this is a good lesson for that."

Jerome Harvey says this family did the right thing in calling 911 right away, and he also stressed the importance of informing the authorities before posting on social media.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
