RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Rushmore Crossing is one area of Rapid City that continued to rapidly expand in 2017. With that expansion, traffic problems have picked up as well.
Rapid City officials will be conducting a traffic study throughout 2018 to decide the best long-term solutions for the area. One reason for the lengthy study is to make sure they're getting the right information and funding, not just piecing together a temporary fix.
Rapid City’s long-range planner Kip Harrington explains, “We’ll take a look at traffic counts and crash reports…we may see some additional turn lanes in the short term and maybe some signal timing issues.”
In the long term, Harrington says some road widening or construction of additional roadways is possible to help alleviate traffic.
Congestion is the main issue at Rushmore Crossing, but there have been accidents due to people trying to get around cars in smaller areas.
