Rapid City students honor veterans

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Rapid City Area Schools students spent their morning honoring the service, sacrifice and loyalty of this nation's veterans.

The day's events ranged from speakers to discussions with guests at breakfast.

Those who set up these events hope that the students will learn to respect those who have served.

Sarah Jensen, an Army veteran and mother of two students who attend Rapid Valley Elementary, enjoyed her third time celebrating the event at her children's school.

"Our military is a volunteer organization and so to have the kids have a positive experience with it and to honor the veterans and what they're doing for America and for our freedom is awesome," said Jensen.

"We get veterans and active military that maybe have students here, but we also have ones that come in and hear about it and thank us for inviting them. And I think too, it shows the community that kids are growing up to honor and respect different people in their communities," said Cher Daniel, Rapid Valley Elementary Principal.

There were other Veterans Day events held at Southwest Middle School and Pinedale Elementary.
