RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - A Rapid City man is charged with aggravated assault on law enforcement after he allegedly tried to run an officer over during a traffic stop.

Timmey Johnston, 41, was initially stopped by a patrol officer Saturday night at the corner of North Seventh and Anamosa Streets. The Rapid City Police Department said the driver and registered owner of the vehicle had a warrant for his arrest.

After first talking with Johnston, the officer walked to the back of Johnston’s vehicle. Johnston then reportedly reversed quickly toward the officer. The officer, believing he was going to be hit, used his hand to push off of the vehicle to avoid being hit. Police say the officer was not injured.

There was a short chase before the suspect bailed out of the vehicle on Farlow Avenue. He was later found nearby hiding in some bushes.

Besides aggravated assault, Johnston is also charged with aggravated eluding, drug possession and a probation hold.
