RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - A home on the 3400 block of Elk Vale Road in Rapid City was extensively damaged in a fire late Wednesday morning.

Rapid City Fire Department crews were mopping up the fire a little before noon, having knocked down the fire within 10 minutes of arrival. Elk Vale Road south of Country Road was closed for a while because firefighters had to run a hose line across Elk Vale to the nearest hydrant.

One person, who was home at the time, was treated for smoke inhalation. Also home were two children who were not injured.

According to Lt. Jim Bussell of the Rapid City Fire Department, a passerby raised the alarm and helped the people out of the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. It is believed that it started in an enclosed porch and spread to the home.
