The Rapid City Police Department wrapped up its "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign.
The two week campaign ran from December 13th through New Year's Day.
And during that time, RCPD says they made 73 DUI arrests.
For New Year's weekend alone, they made 14 DUI arrests.
Lieutenant Andy Becker says the main point of the campaign was to deter people from drinking and driving.
Lieutenant Andy Becker with the Rapid City Police Department says, "So for just that short period of time, having officers specifically try to locate drivers who are impaired, 73 DUI arrests is pretty significant. That is 73 drivers that weren't allowed to continue their driving and maybe hurt somebody so I think overall it was very successful."
Lieutenant Becker says they specifically chose this time frame because during the holidays, people are going out more... and drinking more.
And they just want everyone to have a safe holiday.
RCPD actively looks for impaired drivers year-round... not just during the "Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign.
