The Rapid City Area Schools hosted their first State of the District Address this evening at the Rapid City High School Theater.
The address, which Dr. Lori Simon hopes will become an annual event covered the strengths of the school system as well as the areas viewed for improvement based upon recent listening sessions.
Simon unveiled four district goals, Increasing attendance, English language arts scores, Math scores, and higher Graduation rates. She feels getting student to school is the top priority.
Dr. Lori Simon says, "My focus has been on creating awareness. As I've engaged even with our internal staff and with our families and community, no one really realized how significant our attendance issues were and so that's' really job number one is creating that awareness. "
A new website for the school district was also announced. It will be more mobile friendly for users when it is launched by the end of the year.
