Pine Ridge man draws 17.5-year sentence for murder of Brings Plenty

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - A Pine Ridge man convicted of murder is sentenced in federal court Wednesday.

Calmer Cottier, 26, was sentenced to 17 and a half years in prison for the murder of 30-year-old Ferris Brings Plenty in 2015. Cottier was convicted in a June trial.

Cottier and five other men hit Brings Plenty with a cinder block, kicked him in the head and face, beat him with a stick, and struck him in the back of his head with a machete.

The other men involved in the killing have pleaded guilty to their roles in the death.
