Pennington County Sheriff's office swears in 16 new employees

Rapid City, SD 16 new employees joined the staff at the Pennington County Sheriff's office Thursday afternoon.

Along with six new deputies and correctional officers the team welcomed a new booking tech, a new case manager, and two transport officers.

The new hires were sworn in by Judge Heidi Linngren and joined family and friends for a reception after.

One new Pennington County Sheriff's deputy says he's excited to make a difference in the community where he grew up.

Mathew Pond, new deputy says, "Just seeing the smile on people's faces. Just the things that you wouldn't think would matter to people ... hey sorry you're having a bad day let me know if I can help you out ... doing anything like that. I haven't been on the road ... I've been at the jail ... but just to even talk to people about their kids."

Two of the corrections officers that joined the team will be working at the Western South Dakota Juvenile Services Center.
