On Monday Complete Contracting Inc. started construction on the next phase of the Mount Rushmore Road reconstruction project.
Construction is starting from Saint James Street to Flormann Street and will resume from Kansas City Street to Saint James Street.
During construction, Mount Rushmore Road will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction rather than two lanes.
Ferber Engineering Company President John Van Beek says repairing will be an in-depth process.
John Van Beek says, "All the underground utilities will be replaced: water, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, new surfaces to the businesses and residents along the roadway as well as complete removal of the existing surfacing sidewalk, roadway lighting, and replacing of those facilities."
Van Beek says the target completion date for the Saint James Street to Flormann Street portion is May 2018.
