Military dedicates Ellsworth building in honor of Oglala officer

ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. (KEVN) - The 28th Bomb Wing dedicated the Airfield Operations Building at Ellsworth Air Force Base Oct. 2nd for Ola “Millie” Rexroat.

She was a member of the Women Air Force Service Pilot or WASP and is the only one of Native American decent, a member of the Oglala Lakota Tribe from Pine Ridge. Millie continued her service for 10 years in the Air Force Reserves earning the rank of captain.

First Lt. Miranda Simmons, building memorial officer, helped plan this dedication.

“To be a part of today’s event was just an honor. It’s the only word that comes to mind to describe today. Just to hear about Millie’s story, to have the opportunity to meet her before her passing, was truly a privilege,” said Simmons.
