Meade School District hires temporary superintendent

STURGIS, S.D. (KEVN TV) - The Meade School District has hired an interim superintendent, well known in South Dakota and in the Black Hills.

John Pedersen, who has more than 26 years of experience as a superintendent, was hired Friday by the school board. He will serve as interim superintendent from the first of the year through June.

Pedersen held the position in Harrisburg, Chester, Beresford and Pierre; East River and recently was the interim in Custer and New Underwood.

The school board will begin the process in December to find a fulltime replacement for Don Kirkegaard, who was appointed state secretary of education.
