The ice rink at Main Street Square has been temporarily closed due to the unseasonably warm weather.
The sunny and warm weather has created slushy spots in the ice, mostly along the edges. Skating on top of the already weakened ice can cause unnecessary damage and could put ice skaters at risk for falling as well. Main Street Square Executive Director Megan Whitman says conditions will be evaluated on a daily basis, and the rink will be back open as soon as possible.
Main Street Square Executive Director Megan Whitman says, "One 65°F day is not equal to another 65°F day. If there's nice cloud cover, there's no wind, we're able to maintain the ice a lot more easily, and we're able to open up in those conditions. So we just take it day by day, see what Mother Nature's going to give us, and decide whether or not we can safely open the rink."
The Main Street Square ice rink is scheduled to be open until February 25th, where the final night will be capped off with a "Last Day to Skate Beach Party.
