Local hospital verified as Level II Trauma Center

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Regional Health Rapid City Hospital has been designated as a Level II Trauma Center. The recognition comes from the Verification Review Committee of the American College of Surgeons.

As a Level II Trauma Center, the hospital provides 24-hour coverage by general surgeons. Specialist coverage in orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, radiology and critical care are also provided.

“Quality emergency and trauma care is so important in rural areas such as western South Dakota. If someone has a serious accident or injury, they need the best care possible as quickly as possible,” said Paulette Davidson, President of Regional Health Rapid City Hospital and Market. “This verification shows that Rapid City Hospital has the personnel, training and resources to handle these emergencies.”

Regional Health Rapid City Hospital joins Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls and Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls as the only verified Level II Trauma Centers in South Dakota.
