Legislators remember Representative Craig Tieszen

Pierre, SD The Governor's budget address in Pierre Tuesday started off on a somber note, remembering the life of the late Representative Craig Tieszen.

It wasn't hard to spot the empty chair at the front of the room that was once filled by the District 34 Representative.

The legislature invited a representative of the Church of the Nazarene to speak and offer a prayer before the presentation of the 2018 budget.

One representative lead the hymn Amazing Grace and members of the house and senate were given the opportunity to speak.

Senator Deb Soholt, District 14 says, " To know the Senator and Representative Craig Tieszen is to know a friend and even if you disagreed philosophically with Craig , he was always ready with a smile."

The Governor was waiting until after Representative Tieszen's funeral on Monday to accept any nominations for the District 34 seat.

Governor Daugaard says, "I have not looked at any list. I know there are some who have offered their willingness to serve if appointed and when Representative Dryden died, we had the same district situation and we had a pretty thorough process of soliciting interest and soliciting suggestions."

Those wanting to be considered or offering nominations should contact Grace Beck in the Governor's office.
