Legion Lake Fire: Highways near Custer State Park reopening soon

By  |

The Legion Lake Fire remains at 90 percent containment, but authorities say roads leading to Custer State Park will soon reopen.

The fire has burned more than 54,000 acres.

Custer State Park will reopen Highway 16A and Highway 87 South Monday morning for visitor use.

The park itself will reopen in a limited capacity Monday with all interior roads and trails closed for visitor safety.

Monday's hours of operation will run from 9 to 4.

Monday will also be the official start to the Festival of Trees, which ends on January 1st.

By the end of shift Sunday, crews will reduce to a Type 4 organization, meaning they'll have minimal crew with three engines.
