Administrators, educators, parents, and students gathered Wednesday for the first day of a four-day education conference.

The Lakota Nation Education Conference introduces the newest information and best practices for schools, including bullying deterrence, school board management, and cultural education. It is all in an effort to provide the best possible education for Native American students.

Co-Coordinator of the Lakota Nation Education Conference Maurice Twiss says, "The purpose of the conference is to bring educators together, educators, parents, and students together at the same time as the Oglala Nation Invitational Tournaments to share information, current information, and current techniques, new techniques of education, and to share those so that everybody will have the benefits of new methods."

The conference, which coincides with the Lakota Nation Invitational will conclude this weekend.
